Financial planning explained
You'll notice we call ourselves financial planners. Not financial advisers or wealth managers. So what's the difference?
A plan to guide your decisions
Financial planning, financial advice, and wealth management are often grouped and used interchangeably, but they each mean something quite different. We describe ourselves as financial planners, as our work centres on financial planning, but how is that different from financial advice?
In its simplest form, financial planning is about listening to you, discussing your goals, then creating a strategy and financial plan that aligns with your aspirations and visions for the future, while preparing you for the unexpected.
Not a one-time exercise
Financial planning is a long-term process, and that’s one of the best parts about it. Your plan grows and changes with your life, and we’ll meet annually to check in and make sure everything is still on track. If things need adjusting along the way, we’ll simply adapt it together as part of the journey.
In short, financial advice focuses on the here and now, whereas financial planning looks at how everything fits together across your lifetime. Both have their place, but we’re drawn to the bigger-picture, long-term approach.
